Message 18764 - Posted: 23 Sep 2010, 15:22:04 UTC - in response to Message 18763.

Thanks for the feedback. I have my CPU OCed to 3.33GHz with no load other than the usual background OS stuff. I also have had the Swan_Sync going for almost a month now. Haven't had many issues with failed WUs since I backed the GPUs down from 825 to 800 though. I guess it's Vista in combination with a slower CPU. I know when I overclocked my CPU my RAC jumped about 10% immediately after it had been leveled out and has been slowly climbing ever since but I'm as far as I can go on that since the bios doesn't go any further than 25% OC on the Rampage III.

There are now 1,105 tasks waiting to be sent out ;)

I think your system is setup as well as it could be (unless you use Linux or Win XP).

One thing I noticed is that not all higher clock speeds on the GPU deliver better performance. Occasionally it can drop, so for example 780MHz might be worse than 767MHz for real performance. Repeat data sends that do not cause failure errors . I am not saying this is the case with you, but it is one to watch out for. A card that is clocked slightly below the point where it starts failing some tasks would be the most likely candidate to observe this. It is probably better to go by actual task return time than GPU clock frequency (using the same task types), or at least check that performance has increased with frequency.

There is only 139 workunits in the long wu's queue at the moment. It was 151 today morning, and 131 an hour ago.
I think we will run out of long workunits next week, unless someone put a new batch in it.
I'm getting NATHAN_RPS1120528's and NATHAN_RPS1120801_N's mostly, and rarely a NOELIA_smduplicate or NOELIA_sh2fragment_fixed.

Hopefully someone is keeping an eye on this and will add some tasks early next week :)

I expect the 4.2app and the new cards increased task turnover.
Credit seems to be dipping again, probably due to so many Beta's and normal length tasks. I would prefer tasks to be released into both Long and Normal queues, where possible. Perhaps in Sept, or just after, we will see some project changes (following the arrival of mid range cards)?

There are 1500+ in progress, so even if the unsent falls to 0, we probably wouldn't have to wait long before another auto-generated task became available.

If anyone is concerned about running out of work (and only runs tasks from the Long queue) then I suggest selecting the following Project Preference,

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes

Hi dear long-queue volunteers,

Just sent 300 WU of a system I need more material to work with. It will be 67500 credits each, and it is called sh2. Also, as soon as the jobs in beta queue are done, I'll send a good bunch of jobs in the long and short queue, you'll see a post in News in two days or so.

Thank you for your time!
Noelia.

A GPUGrid challenge will begin today at 13:30, so it would be nice to have more workunits in the long queue....

Thank you, Toni!

Long runs: 671 unsent; 1986 in progress.
It's increased by 223 (12.65%) since my last post, so 90 couldn't have been sufficient.

Are you sure? We started at 20000? At chrismas so 6000 left that should work out for a week minimum. Or was there a new long run batch i didnt recognize between?

Long runs: 5.534 Unsent; 2.234 in progress.
The number of unsent long workunits is dropped by 706 in the past 11 hours, so my previous estimation was exaggerated.
My new estimation is that we'll run out of long workunits in 86 hours (3.6 days) from now.

I might be wrong but I think the 20K tasks ran, returned and were used to autogenerate a second batch, based on the results of the first batch, which would mean 20K+20K went into the queue.
Remember, the methods of this experiment are different, and developing scientific methodologies is key to progressing science. Usually a few thousand tasks are released from which many generations follow. This time there are many tasks (20K) but only a couple of generations.
We are at 3,479/2,230 now, about 2000tasks in 34h. So we should be good until Monday night/Tuesday morning. We can also tap into the short queue if need be!

I just got a couple TONI units after about a month of nothing but these NOELIA units, so we must running low on NOELIA units and coming to the end of this phase of the experiment.

I received such TONI too, so we won't run out that soon as I predicted, because these TONIs are more than 2 step "deep".
