I want to go crossfire 5870s and keep one of my GTX285s and put the other 285 I have in daughters computer. Goal being able to still run GPUGrid after going Crossfire Windows 7 64bit...this easily doable? Anyone know first hand? Thanks in advance. |

I want to go crossfire 5870s and keep one of my GTX285s and put the other 285 I have in daughters computer. The later nvidia drivers will disable the graphics if they detect an ATI card. There is a registry hack to work around this. You could also use older drivers. Simplest would be to put nvidias in one box and atis in the other if the machines can cope. BOINC blog |

I want to go crossfire 5870s and keep one of my GTX285s and put the other 285 I have in daughters computer. Um, depends on the OS and how you install the drivers... I now have a Win7 64-bit installation where I have a GTX280 card alongside a HD5870 and they are happily working away. Even as I type this the system is working on the 3rd or 4th GPU Grid task that this system has run while the ATI card is running Collatz and other projects. Only a couple days in so I am not sure how well it will work in the long run ... but it is doable... More notes on Collatz NC ... Bottom line, I let the installer of the OS feed the drivers for the ATI card and then installed the drivers ONLY for the Nvidia card and it works (though I had to make a dummy load for the second card... ) |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think at this point I'm going to just hold off on the 5870s until GPUGrid works out the kinks with running ATI cards and then switch over completely. Thanks, |

Not to 'frow wocks or anything ... But, at the rate they seem to be making progress that could be another year or more ... In the mean time there are more ATI projects out there especially if you do not mind running test projects because SaH Beta is working on ATI applications as we speak though they are, as far as I can tell out of work at the moment ... I just added DNETC to MW and Collatz for my ATI systems... Of course you can also run DNETC, PG, MW, Collatz, GPU Grid, etc. on Nvidia too ... I am just saying ... :) |

Just don't be too surprised if it turns out that (after some optimization) Fermi is more efficient at GPU-Grid than Cypress. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

How do credits get awarded? I checked DNETC out & they're Ati boyz. Almost everything there runs on Ati GPU's & get insane amounts of credit 6mil average for nr.1 down to 225k for nr.40. I've got my HTPC running there, since I can't get the 9400IGP & 8800GT combo running on GPUGRID no more. It doesn't score anything, but neither does a GTX285. How do BOINC Projects agree on credits BTW? Is there any fairness in regards to actual work getting done or can BOINC Projects give out as much or as little credit as they please?

Point parity across projects has never been BOINC's strong suit. Some projects (like GPUGrid) use the *standard* formula but other projects actively target point chasers. There is a project underway at BOINC to bring a parity across projects but we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. In the end I think most people crunch for projects they believe in rather than just the points. While some point chasers have a great deal of processing power at their disposal and it is nice when they vist *your* project of choice, it still only amounts to single digit percentages output compared to the total output of the projects. Nice to know that they're planning on an ISO??? of credits. But it still baffles me that Nvidia GPU's can't get decent points there & here it's the other way around. Is it really that different, or do I smell vested interests? BTW DNETC wasn't my first or favorite choice, it was my ONLY choice. Either that or crunch CPU projects. I tried Lattice, Aqua, & yoyo. Only DNETC supported my GPU's. I know there's SETI, Milkyway,Collatz, & Prime. But Math & Aliens is not why crunch...

How do credits get awarded? See Gipsel's (Cluster Physik on MW) post for an explanation. Shortly thereafter MW lowered their credit scheme to fit his suggestions: http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=776&nowrap=true#6977 |
