Guys, every damn time I suspend the project (to play videogames for example) and then resume it, my WUs error out. This is quite nasty to me. Is it a normal behaviour for the project? Happens with both 6.03 and 6.71. WindowsXP, BOINC 6.6.38, 8800GT, Driver 191.07 |

In Advanced Preferences, Disk and Memory Usage, Uncheck Leave Applications in Memory While Suspended, or just close Boinc when you are gaming. You can start it up agian when you stop gaming - a desktop shortcut or pin to start menu helps. |

I personally think that the "leave application in memory" option was really useful. Why should I uncheck it and why should it solve the problem? Do you think that gaming + GPUGrid saturates the Vram and that is the cause of the errors? P.S. Closing BOINC is not a viable option. I want to keep computing with the CPU, I just need to free the GPU, that's why I suspend only GPUGrid |

In BOINC menu Advanced Preferences, Processor usage, uncheck "Use GPU while computer is in use" Kind regards Alain |

Alain, thanks but the problem is not HOW to suspend, the problem is that resuming after suspending leads to a crash in the WU... |

Just for test ... have you tried restarting the computer before restarting the task? Thanks - Steve |

Nope. I can do it, FOR TEST, but that's not really a long time solution: I don't wanna restart everytime I play |

I think the RAM is used by something else later (games), so when Boinc tries to call GPUGrid data from RAM is appears corrupt (becasue it has been replaced by your game)! Shut down Boinc when playing games and start it up when you are finished gaming. |

I tested restarting before resuming and it worked. So I agree with skgiven in thinking that the project looks for RAM blocks that have been overwritten by the game and thus errors out. I dunno if there could be any programming solution but so far it's only "close BOINC when you play". Pretty lame... |

i am running 6.10.18 with gtz260-216 if a wu starts and runs uninterrupted until complete, they finish ok if boinc switches from gpugrid to another application then back to gpugrid, the wu fails every time i have tried "leave apps in mem while suspended" both checked and unchecked with the same results is there a checkpointing problem with gpugrid? i am running gpugrid, collatz and dnetc this only happens to gpugrid wu |

You could try upgrading BOINC to the latest client BETA 6.10.43 I believe a lot of the work they have done on it involves the GPU. Radio Caroline, the world's most famous offshore pirate radio station. Great music since April 1964. Support Radio Caroline Team - Radio Caroline |
