The NVIDIA Ion2 is expected to be released sometime this year. The ION was initially capable of completing GPUGrid tasks, but is no longer capable due to the longer tasks / 5 day time limitations. Give it 7days and it would still get the job done. The ION 2 is expected to have twice the number of 'shaders', putting it at least on a par with other cards that can just about contribute - if you leave the system on for 3 or 4 days! The reason I bring this up is due to the fact the ION 2 will work with a much larger CPU range including the Intel Core 2 Duo, so it should be quite usable. The existing Ion is only used with the Atom CPU, which is about as useful for crunching as a 7 year old 900MHz Celeron. So with the CPU time cut down by a descent processor it could be quite usable. |

The new beta application will cut the time down quite a bit. So the ion should be back. gdf |

Sounds like good news for the few that have an ION, and perhaps plenty of others that struggle to meet the shorter time frames. Thanks, |
