Oh my "superfast" pentium 4 host gone over 100M :)

bad that the gpu driver crashed sometimes on the latest workunits and it killed its 270k RAC :( hope i solved it.

I recently switched over from Folding@home as I fancied a change. Got my 10M badge today. Looking forward to my next one.
Was running one machine for the first week or so and switched over the second machine yesterday so should make fairly good progress.

Welcome to GPUGRID Stan, and congratulations on your milestone.

Your GPU's should see your RAC rise and I'm sure you will see another milestone or two fairly soon.

You can see the badges in the Volunteers section.

Hope your Boinc experience is a good one,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting one of the publication badges at some point. It would be nice to know the work I'm doing is helping.

I've done a bit of BOINC in the past. I did a bit of SETI and CPDN and a tiny bit of LHC but mainly Rosetta - all under my old username of Bigstan. I'm running Rosetta on the spare cycles of my main rig now as well - shame to let all those spare cores go to waste.

Well seems like my old friends at my home project SETI@HOME won´t ever stop teasing me to go back. Plus, Stoneageman have now a new 4x780ti monster, wich end my almost 2year domination with my 3x690 "cheap" amd rig. And I hit my never expected 2bn creds in here. And my vacations will be in 12 days, and no way I can let the 3 rigs working alone for 30 days....
All in all, I feel like going back to S@H for a bit guys.
I really enjoy my time here, and really hope the work we all done together bring some good cures at light.
Hope the best to you all, brave hearth people of altruist crunch!

Sad to see you go Firehawk. The project has lost a major contributor for sure

If anyone can find intelligent life out there, it'll be you.

Take care

Well seems like my old friends at my home project SETI@HOME won´t ever stop teasing me to go back.

I think that there is extra terrestrial life exists, in many forms. I've begun my crunching with SETI@Home (classic, before the BOINC times). I don't follow the SETI@Home project lately (I receive an invitation e-mail from them once in a while), but the history of the human telecommunication (and the lack of ET discovery by listening to radio signals for 40 years) convinced me that we won't find ET that way. As our technology evolves, we use less and less energy for our communication, emitting much less radio signals into the outer space, so even our civilization won't be detectable by listening to radio signals. There is only a ~100 years time frame in which we've emitted such powerful signals. 100 years is nothing compared to the age of the universe (~13.2 billion years). It is very unlikely, that we'll catch those powerful radio waves of ET, which were emitted by their civilization in their 100 years timeframe of technology a couple of million years ago. Besides, in a couple of years we'll use some quantum effect for our communication, which will use even less energy than electro-magnetic waves, also it will be undetectable for others (according to my current knowledge).

Plus, Stoneageman have now a new 4x780ti monster, wich end my almost 2year domination with my 3x690 "cheap" amd rig.

Once upon a time, one of my hosts was the 1st. Now it's the 3rd regarding the total credits, and 28th regarding the RAC. I'm glad that there is a great competition here, it's good for the project, and that's why we are here.

And I hit my never expected 2bn creds in here.

I can understand that. How about the three other badges?

And my vacations will be in 12 days, and no way I can let the 3 rigs working alone for 30 days....

It can add an extra thrill to the vacation. :) One of the vapor chambers of my GTX690 has failed while I was 400km away. I've managed it through remote access...

All in all, I feel like going back to S@H for a bit guys.

You have three top-end hosts here. You can assign each one for a different project, so you don't have to leave this one for any other project you are interested in.

I really enjoy my time here, and really hope the work we all done together bring some good cures at light.

Did you know that the number of combinations in which the amino acids could be joined exceeds (by a couple of order of magnitudes) the number of the protons in the whole universe? Every living thing has a small "universe" (regarding its complexity) in every protein of their body. So, this is quite a big work to understand how it works, and why are there so few "useful" combinations.

Hope the best to you all, brave hearth people of altruist crunch!
Firehawk

Thanks, and I wish you the same!

Thank you guys, for all your words. You are doing a brilliant work over here. And Retvari, you make me think. Maybe I will reconsider that after the needed vacations :D
Cheers for all!

I know some SETI fans might not like it but thought I'd share the story.
When I did my masters I took a course in astrophysics. At some point when we discussed Drake's equation, the professor, mentioning SETI, said: "Maybe people should start by looking for terrestrial intelligence first and then look for extraterrestrial one".
Caused a few laughs :D He was quite the funny guy.

Wow, wasting 3 690s and the electricity it takes to run them to look for a signal that exists but will never be found when they are badly needed for real problems is irresponsible. Someone should pass a law to make that kind of waste illegal and shut that stupid project down.

Anyway, didn't really come here to knock the loonies at SETI. My RAC broke 900,000 today, two 670 and a 660Ti. I didn't expect it to go much past 800,000. If I tune the clocks and voltage I might break 1M.
