An idea to check for the newest Intel CPU designs, such as the i7: Do the GPU cards include any feature that assumes that the CPU's main memory is reachable from the same bus that the GPU card is plugged into? If so, check for signs that Intel has blocked their new chips with separate memory interfaces on the CPU chip from allowing devices on the bus used for peripherals from being able to reach the CPU's main memory, or at least made such accesses slower than before. I don't know yet if this idea is worth passing on to Nvidia, but consider that as well, especially if you find that such a blockage affects Nvidia GPU boards but not much else. I think I've seen a mention of GPUGRID applications having problems running under Windows 7, so it looks worth checking if this problem is also specific to using Intel CPUs with the separate memory interface feature. |
