I'm running BOINC 6.6.36 with GPUGRID attached. I've got an overclocked Intel E7300 Core 2 Duo running at 3.40GHz and an NVIDIA 9600GT (driver 190.38, compute capability 1.1, 512MB, est. 38GFLOPS). After the BOINC client downloads two full-atom molecular dynamics 6.67 (cuda23) work units, it never starts working on them, with progress stuck at 0% and a perpetual status of "Ready to start". Am I doing something wrong? I thought my GPU was capable of processing these WUs, and if not, shouldn't I have received some sort of error message in the Messages pane in BOINC? Thanks! |

Resolved: I feel stupid. All I had to do was go into BOINC Preferences and check "Use GPU while computer is in use". :-/ |

You probably have the BOINC preference setting "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use?" set to 'yes' - that's the default in BOINC v6.6.36 Go to your Computing preferences page, and change that entry (third one down) to 'no': make the same change on other venue preferences, if you have any set up. Save your changes, then select the GPUGrid project in your local BOINC Manager and clip 'update'. The first task should then start running. PS Yes, I know the preference says 'enforced by 6.7+' - they brought it in early! Edit - ah, I see you've found the alternative place for that setting (where the sense is the opposite way round - tick to run, instead of tick to suspend). Same overall effect, but you'll find that you've created a complete set of local preferences, which will override any preferences set through this website from now on. Depending which toolset you prefer to use (local or web-based), you may want to change the web setting anyway, and possibly clear your local prefernces. |
