We understand this. We hope to produce a new one with the help of Yellow Dog Linux which will support it. For now, you can use WIFI installing the full Yellow Dog Linux following the simple instructions on the ps3grid website. Not as quick as the USB, but it will do the job.

Yes, I am sorta in a similar situation: I don\'t game. My sole purpose of purchasing ps3\'s would be to crunch.

But...

(1) Where I am presently renting, wi-fi only access to the net; and

(2) I don\'t have any hdmi / dvi monitors (just an analog crt and a composite tv) which I understand are required for YDL.

Any (eventual) assistance in helping folks like me crunch, would be greatly appreciated !

wi-fi for me too please.

Plus no useless xserver in live usb. It would be great if there is a text only client.

I could make use of WIFI on the USB stick version.

It would allow me to add another PS3. For private reasons I cannot install the full version on that unit and its location requires WIFI access.

I\'ve not booted ydl from a usb pen drive, I used a full install of ydl.
My full ydl install though didn\'t have wifi support but I got it working by installing kernel-2.6.23-9.ydl5.1.ppc64.rpm

Will that not work for a usb pen drive system?

YDL is supporting only WLAN WEP encryption, but if you use google.com, you will find ways how a full install of YDL can support WPA also....i think, WPA is necessary for any WLAN to be secure.
