Only one task running at a time

I have now for a few days been running BOINC on my PS3 under YDL 6.1 linux. As far as I know, the PS3 has (at least virtually speaking) 2 processors. BOINC Manager says 2 processors. This is also indicated on PS3GRID.NET: 'Cell broadband engine [model 0] (2 processors)'. And BOINCSTATS also says CPU# = 1(2). An Intel Core 2 Duo has same indication. I would therefore expect BOINC to run 2 tasks at the same time on my PS3. But only one is running. Can anybody explain why ??? PS: The BOINC manager I picked up from PS3GRID.NET, it is version 5.10.6. Best regards, Niels Brandt |

check out, http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html lars claims that ps3grid, I assume now gpugrid, runs well with this project and runs two crunchers concurrently. I asked him but he did not return message. I asked him because the ps3, from what I read, is, essentially, a single processor with a bunch of coprocessors. he knows better than I do how to get the most out of the ps3, but would like confirmation as I have no baseline. I am new to this project, started yesterday, and upgraded to ydl62 during that time. the WUs are @24h crunching and from what I have read it could be a problem with the concurrent running or hosed WUs. I am trying to experiment with another ps3 project because my yoyo WUs, whether concurrent or not, fade to 1-3%--take forever and little credit. i.e., too much intervention required and wondering if the WU hosed and wasted time. the bottomline, check out the dotsch site and experiment. between those of us experimenting between projects, we might get to the bottom of how best to utilize the ps3. |

followup for those thinking ps3 should have two crunchers at a time like a true dual core. not with these updated apps--that better utilize the SPEs. I ran this project for almost 5 days with dotsch's boinc 6.2.19--initiates two crunchers concurrently, fullatom5.03. after nearly 5 days, still not done. I suspended both, to clear the SPEs and then ran each one at a time. first one took 12-14h; the second is not not down and at 16h. again, this is in addition to the 4+ days running concurrently. in short, avoid boinc client that fires off two crunchers on a ps3. strange though, the first one claimed 6800 but was granted 5600. why is that?? by the way, I cannot keep the yoyo dnetc cruncher running consistently, everyday fades to 1-3% on ps3, to tell if running concurrent crunchers good there. |

If you run two task concurrently there will be problems. One wu allocates all available coprocessors, and the other wu hangs polling for them. Our client does the right job of running just one wu at the time. gdf |
