Next week, we are going to update the Windows application to CUDA2.2. It worked ok on driver 190.xx. On Monday, we will update the beta application to start few days of testing. On Thursday, we will update the application for everyone. In the meanwhile, you should be able to upgrade to 190.xx drivers, as the current application works fine with it. Please confirm this and I will put a news on the main page. gdf [EDIT YOU CAN ALSO INSTALL JUST the 185.xx drivers,as CUDA2.2 works with those under Windows] |

Works well with 190.xx drivers, and cherry on the sundae, you don't need to switch anymore in vidia control panel, on dual gpu boards, to make your two gpu run each a workunit. |

Could we go ahead an jump to Cuda 2.3, it is released now. I second the motion! The guys over at Seti are reporting about a 30% speedup on some work units when using cuda 2.3 DLL's and 190.38 driver. I have already cut over 3 machines, just waiting on the others to finish off their cuda work before they get switched over. BOINC blog |

I saw a timeline on Cuda releases and it looked like 2.3 is the last release until 3.0 comes out. |

From the nvidia forum CUDA2.3 seems still a bit too fresh with several issues outstanding. In our benchmarks, it did not give any performance advantage. gdf |

How will this affect Linux users? The 185.X and 190.X series do not currently work with GPUGrid. Will the 180.X series still work? Mike Doerner

- It worked ok on driver 190.xx - Part of my last day experience with Nvidias drivers: - Driver 190.xx didn't worked at all on a fresh Vista-64 install. - Linux driver 185.xx didn't worked at all on a fresh Suse-64 install. So one consequence might be that I may retire a couple of cards from this project. There's still only 5080 volunteers to the GPUGRID. That's not too many and alternatives are popping up quickly on the BOINC meadow... I do understand the necessity to improve computing performances but I also do have doubts about the significancy of those improvments if they have to be reliated to a relative stability and fidelity at the volunteers hostmachines. So much time-critical, are not this project. |

OK, I am on SuSe 11.1 64-bit, which looks like is one of the "problem" distributions. What other Linux distros did you test? How about Gentoo? Maybe I just need to switch distros to make this work. I don't like Red Hat or Kubuntu, but Gentoo appeals to me.... Mike Doerner

- Driver 190.xx didn't worked at all on a fresh Vista-64 install. Did you try installing it in safe mode? Bob |

The guys over at Seti are reporting about a 30% speedup on some work units when using cuda 2.3 DLL's and 190.38 driver. On high end cards the speed up is between 1.8x and 2.8x the speed. This is due to improvements in FFT though and it appears as though GPU grid doesn't use FFT's. Bob |

From the nvidia forum CUDA2.3 seems still a bit too fresh with several issues outstanding. In our benchmarks, it did not give any performance advantage. New drivers working fine here on XP64 and Win 7 64 Isn't it about time we left 32bit behind? We need 2.3 now...NOW I tells ya. We need the NEWEST and SHINIEST, we won't settle for anything less! :) WOW, glad to get that out. Radio Caroline, the world's most famous offshore pirate radio station. Great music since April 1964. Is anyone seeing a speed up with 190? I switched today (no problems, no need to run dry first) and the first WU would yield 11.0k RAC, whereas currently I'm at 9.7k. It's only one WU, though. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

no speed up... same speed... it seems for a speed up; it has to be built with the 2.3 files. |

I dont see any difference. The tasks are different and it is difficult to compare actual speed. |
