Recently, perhaps twice a week, I've been getting BSODs caused by Nvidia code. I have a cheapo extractor fan sitting in a PCI slot. My GPU runs typically at 85C-87C, with one peak into the 90s.

I turned off GPUGRID a couple hours ago and the GPU has settled at 68C.

Should I quit running GPUGRID for fear of frying the card, or is there something I missed?

No, you're pretty spon-on, you are frying the card. I'd recommend some better cooling if you want to continue crunching or downclock the card. Regards, H

Your card temp is warm but my GTX275 runs 24/7 at 86C and have no problems.
Yos say your card is 68C while it is idle and should be more like 45C to 50C so that indicates that your case cooling is not up to scratch. Those temps while high are not high enough to fry your card or cause BSODs

if your dell computer has a grill in the back, may i suggest

case Fan- size to be determined by how much screen mesh you have..

no need for holes, you zip ties...

my gpu runs no hotter than 76 C... that 80 mm fan helps remove the hot air as the only case fan is the one for the cpu and i added this case fan to help...

go to newegg, find a cheap fan with no shipping....

that fan in pic is only 3 inches.but it works....

also, if the gpu has a fan and is not pci, get evga or rivatuner that fan to 75% or more..

my gtx 260 standard fan speed was 40% and it kept crashing too but i added evga precision and now under gpugrid, it runs 58-63 C.

These temperatures are fine for ur graph. card, so u don`t have 2 worry :).

Another additional fan that might help is a drive bay fan in an empty slot. Antec used to make a nice 3-fan unit that had good airflow. In a tower, put it in the top drive bay slot to pull in cool air where the case is hottest.

i doubt that his dell computer would have an empty drive bay as it's a p4 which means it probably has a floppy drive and 1 cd or 2 cd drives as i have one just like his...

Yes, that is a nice looking unit. If a bit less eye-pleasing (and a bit more noise) are okay, I found the 3-fan Antec unit here.

* The BSODs certainly were Nvidia caused. I did not write down the details but the offending program was NV4_something, and the cause in each case was an infinite loop.
* I like the idea of more case cooling so I bought a fan to fix on the back of the PC, close to the graphic card. Should be here Wednesday.
* The hard drive cooler would not work in my case. The two hard drives are fitted well away from the CD slots, in their own plastic holders.

Being a little more specific, I was running my XFX GSO 9600 at factory clocking, and 70% fan speed. 70% was just acceptable, noise wise. I also run rosetta@home 24/7.

Since I switched off GPUGRID I lowered the fan speed to 50%. The GPU temperature is now a constant 70C. Let’s hope the new fan will let me get back to GPUGRID-ing!
