Your seems to be a card problem, either overclocking or something else.

Its happening to 4 cards that have the new 185.18.14 drivers.
None of them are overclocked, I thought you couldn't overclock GPUs in linux.
All are running fedora 11 x64 and all worked fine with 180.22 drivers.

Is anyone successfully running the new drivers with fedora 11 x64?

Oops, that should be 2xfedora 11 and 2xfedora 9

I'm trying the cuda 2.3 190.18 drivers on one f9 machine, 20min in and still running :)

I'm currently running 185.18.29 on my Suse 11.2 Milestone 4 installation. I was running 190.18 as of yesterday when 185.18.29 was released. So far so good.

Prior to switching to Suse 11.2 M4, I was running Suse 11.1, and the 185 and 190 series drivers NEVER worked correctly on that version of Suse.

Is there a possibility of setting up a small partition on your hard drive to test the Suse 11.2 M4 installation to see if this configuration of software would work with your hardware?

A bit of progress
I've got 1 f11 machine happily running with 190.18 drivers
but still have 1 f11 and 2 f9 machines failing every WU

Although I'd prefer to stay with fedora if at all possible, if it comes to the worst, I'll change to another linux, maybe even suse

Your errors are odd and have nothing to do with the previous problems with the 185.xx drivers.

This following wu was calculated with the nvidia drivers 185.18.29 on Q6600 GTX280 (boinc 6.4.5 app 6.66).
No problem at all with it.

a bit more progress to report
I added the following line to my boinc startup file
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:.:$BOINC_PATH/projects/www.gpugrid.net
This on a GTX295 running Fedora 9. It has just now completed its first WUs since upgrading the drivers to 185.18.14.
I'll try the same trick on the 2 machines still failing

I am running Suse 11.2 Milestone 4 with the beta 190 driver. The fix/workaround for Gpugrid and BOINC works and is stable. I had to delete the old work and settings and reset the project to get it to move forward. If you have any remnants of the old work units or settings, you will need to detach or reset to get rid of them. Detach may be better since it erases the old files.
Good luck.

Is it abnormal for the boinc manager to report driver version 0? I have Fedora 11 x64 on a 8800GT. It recognizes the card fine though. Reason I ask is, that it errored out just now on a workunit after a short time (1 hour maybe). And it used to work fine before the upgrade to 185 from 180.xx.

I did uninstall the old one although a kernel upgrade got involved and i had to uninstall and reinstall the 185 driver a few times. But I dont remember how boinc manager reported the driver version when it worked fine.

When I look in the NVIDIA control manager, it reports the correct driver version, 185.xx. I will detach and re-attach as suggested here, to see if it helps.

ok, my LD_LIBRARY_PATH trick didn't work for the 2 remaining machines :(

I've now detach/attached them, we'll see what happens tomorrow when they get more WUs
thanks for the tip

Hi,

NVIDIA released new 185.18.31 drivers (Linux).

Michael

Dude! How'd you find that release so fast? It wasn't posed on NVNews yet.

Mike Doerner

PS 185.18.31 seems to run the best of all the current 185/190 releases so far.

Pure luck, I wanted to check, which version I was downloading yesterday, and to my surprise the release date was Juli, 31st...

I hope for some improvements compared to *.29 version, because all of my WUs failed with client error so far.

Michael

Yesterday I downloaded the 190.18 beta drivers for Ubuntu 9.04, 64-bit. My first WU with these is has just finished successfully. I did have some trouble installing them though - I had to remove all traces of previous Nvidia drivers before they would run without problems. After many error messages during install, they appear to be ok now.

Hi Lazarus,

can you give some details, which files etc. I plan to install 190.* drivers, because all the latest 185.* drivers cause client errors.
