Looks like there is a start bug for gpu. I have loaded 10 seti beta, the first downloaded file started, after the next it started the other got waiting status etc. Unfortunately the same with gpugrid wu, 2 files downloaded, the newest one started, the oldest one started next, first waited, after some seconds it crashed. I have not seen this in earlier versions <=6.6.24 Richard Haselgrove pointed to a problem that sounds like this ... I have not looked into it much as I am not having this problem at least not that I have noted. There **ARE** still issues with the Resource Scheduler. Getting anyone to take a look at them is proving to be tough. And suggestions are even less welcome, or that is the feeling *I* have gotten ... always possible that I misunderstand ... I mean I have a log showing that the "enforce" routine was executed 5 times in one second and all I have is a response that this is not possible ... I lost 5 tasks to that one ... |

I mean I have a log showing that the "enforce" routine was executed 5 times in one second and all I have is a response that this is not possible I can't remember the movie but, the one guy said something about how it was not possible and the other guy says "Well, you're looking at it man ..." I need to go back and look more at the code to see how that is possible. At the moment I am struggling with getting two new i7 920 to work ... My old, old, old, old display has been flakey for some time and Frys advertised for a 24 year sale ... and the price on the Asus Ramage II and chip was just too tempting. I also got my first pair of next generation cases. Antec 900 somethings... the MB looks small in there. Well, when I see that the price of the super end MB comes down a bit I can pull these boards and put in one that has 3 or 4 PCI-e slots. They had what looked to be a good deal on GTX260 cards so I got a pair of those too ... so, though I am retiring 3 systems and putting one more in mothballs... I will have two more GPUs working for me (if I can get them to work right... had a scare where it looked like it trashed 3 GPU Grid tasks... but, it looks like they did not get reported so I might be Ok with them.., Struggling with the drivers and trying to get the display and the video systems to cooperate... At the end of the day, I will be taking 14 CPU cores off line but adding 16 and two more GPU cores ... not bad if I can get it all working ... still running down my queues on one system, though I lost a ton that I tried to move ... oh, well ... |

You've heard of cleptomaniacs. Well now there's boincomaniacs. Says he who has 4 quads and an i7 behind him. And another quad sitting on the floor doing nothing. BOINC blog |

You've heard of pyromaniacs. It was: 1 each AMD Dual core 2 each Dell Dual Xeon with HT (one 32-bit, one 64 bit) 1 each Q9300 1 Each i7 940 1 Each Mac pro 2 + 4 + 4 + 8 + 8 CPUs = 26 CPUs 1 + 1 + 2 (4) GPU cards = 6 GPU cores a long way from the 9 boxes I ***USED*** to have running... Now I will only be running: 2 Each i7 920 1 Each i7 940 1 Each Mac pro 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 32 CPUs 2 + 2 + 2 (4) GPU cards = 8 GPUs And one of those is only a 9800GT. {edit} <indignation mode on> So it was NEVER 4 quads ... only 3 ... and two of those were quads only in the sense of HT making duals out of a single core ... </indignation mode> :) |

I will have two more GPUs working for me .... I just purchased a GTX260 216 core, and am glad that I did. Got it for under $200. I have the capability for a 2nd GPU, but had stopped using 2 8800 GPU's because my electricity bill went up noticeably. But perhaps the more efficient GTX260's are not such electric hogs.....guess that will be determined when I get my next electric bill! ;) |

I will have two more GPUs working for me .... I would have preferred GTX295s, but I could not find even one on the shelf ... the pair of GTX260 cards will only cost $150 US when we send in the rebates ... like I told Nancy, this was the sale I had been waiting for ... i7's on sale, GTX cards on sale ... I probably should have thought about getting that ATI card ... well, probably not ... I will keep the Q9300 and it only has one PCI-e slot. SO the ATI card I already have is plenty ... |

OT, but so what.. don't bother with another ATI just yet. Mine could do ~100k RAC (OC) and currently hovers at 13k, because it doesn't get much work, even with a modest update script. Still dropping, I guess soon below the level of my 9800GTX+ :o And sometimes I hate to be right.. (cpu) people at MW didn't take it too kindly when I said Travis' CUDA-Plane is not going to take off anytime soon. But so far we're only hearing engine stutttering, whereas the ATI squadron is mostly tied to the ground due to fuel shortage.. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Still dropping, I guess soon below the level of my 9800GTX+ :o On a personal basis, just for the science, MW is more to my taste. And, I got one ATI card and was happy as a clam though I could not ever get it "dialed in" so that it would work quite the way CP said it should. But, yes, I was doing quite well for awhile there. Now, well, I am mostly keeping in the shadows there because the natives are restless and I get enough trouble elsewhere to keep me overflowed. Heck, I am not sure I can even keep the optimized applications loading and not being deleted for some strange reason. Sigh, just one more problem on my list of problems to solve. In that I am here because the pay is good, the locals are friendly, the staff attentive ... well, for me that counts for a lot in a project. When Rosetta started the staff came by the forums on a regular basis and posted notes and asked how they could make it a better project. I told them, stay active in the forums ... I also predicted that in 6 months we would not see them there any longer ... I hate to be right all the time ... FOr the staff here ... keep it up, it counts for more than you realize ... even just to post a joke, or an aside on a thread ... or we are looking at that ... FOr one thing it makes us feel like there are really people in the project and we are part of the team ... Last note, the ATI card is not even in a system at this time. I am running down the last work in the one Dell (the other cleared earlier) and when I get that most clear I will whack my accounts on the machine and shut it down for the last time ... |

Now, well, I am mostly keeping in the shadows there because the natives are restless and I get enough trouble elsewhere to keep me overflowed. Me too. I tried posting there, but it was not very pleasant.. more chatter than actually communicating. Admittedly, I was trying to communicate an uncomfortable thought, which probably didn't help ;) MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

FOr one thing it makes us feel like there are really people in the project and we are part of the team ... I'll second that. Its vital to have regular contact at a "human" level if a Team is to operate at its best. Its often forgotten or not realised in the current world of "me me me me" [I call them Opera Singers :) ] thats endemic out there. The games world is a Classic example of where by in large Forums are driven by pure personal or commercial motivators, they always end up a hive of growling combative individuals trying to out-do each other, and the owners are no where to be seen because they get their heads taken off . A fantastic example of how to do it, and the brilliant results that can be achieved is Stardock - they make a lot of the graphics software for Windows on contract, and do a line of Strategy Games. They are slowly chanaging the face of the Games Industry as their results power through time after time, blowing apart conventional thinking on "how to make games". They are currently opening up a second development Studio in Michigan employing another 52 people, doubling their Team numbers. They have a Policy of "all included", go to the forums and you see the developers part and parcel of the forum life, always on (easy to spot them via their Avatars), always chatting etc - being "human". They do Public Betas without exception, everything they do is driven by Public Betas. Most people there leap at the chance to get at a Beta, and run it on test for them, as you get the latest and greatest in their software - and all respond in kind with comment/suggestion/quality feedback. The Site will only publish things if its of interest - otherwise they shut up :) No fluff for the sake of it. All very purposeful and highly driven. Even the CEO is online regularly - he always gets hold of the nastier Trolls and tells them where to get off, bans them, refunds any games fees paid, and we never see them again. The forums are the most active, friendly and productive I have ever come across. The upshot is phenominal graphics and games software thats getting consistent accolades in its Sector, and a hugely Loyal and responsive fan base that will do anything to help them produce ever better software - its a Mega win-win. Not a promo - its worth nipping over to have a look and get a feel of the forums / site there to see what I mean - its genuine Teamwork in action and what can be achieved by it. http://www.galciv2.com Regards Zy |
