I installed YDL 6 on my PS3 and the PS3 BOINC client from this website. It seems to be working fine, but is there some way to install BOINC as a daemon so that it run BOINC without me needing to log in? Apparently the regular BOINC client can be installed as a daemon, but will the latest version 6 BOINC client work correctly on the PS3? And what repository do I need to add to get BOINC on YDL?

You have to use the version provided here for the PS3, which was compiled for the PS3 and has special modifications.

There is no version of BOINC on the BOINC download site for the PS3.

I do not know about installing as a daemon. I do not know linux that well.

It runs as a daemon without problem, just start with [boinccommand] -daemon, where [boinccommand] is the placeholder for the name of your boincclient.
there is also a newer version (6.2.19?) of the client under

http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html

which i tried and found working.

you have to provide a script in /etc/init.d for the "automatic" startup of boinc.

start here:

http://www.sar-hessen.org/download/download_linux.htm look for boincctl on this page.

another good one in english:

http://www.spy-hill.net/~myers/help/boinc/unix.html#start

The
http://www.spy-hill.net/~myers/help/boinc/unix.html#start
page was extremely helpful and exactly what I was looking for. I installed the boinc init script and now have boinc running as a daemon on startup. I just boot "Other OS" from the PS3 and then boinc is running under YDL without any further interaction. I don't have to log into linux unless I want to.
