I opened my Linux Mint 19.3 Synaptic Package Manager and searched on BOINC. I was surprised by how many uninstalled packages there are and wonder if they're any use to a civilian cruncher. The ones that say "savvy" are out since I'm not savvy at anything. The ones called metapackage sound like something Mulder & Sculley might investigate.

libboinc-app7 libraries for BOINC's scientific applications sounds interesting but the description is too cryptic to know if I should install it or not: "This package contains dynamic libraries that are needed for applications which utilizes the BOINC infrastructure and the boinc-client itself."

boinc-app-eah-brp BOINC extension for Einstein@Home binary pulsar search sounds like something useful until one reads the grammatically challenged description: "This package provides an executable for the Binary Pulsar Search subproject of the Einstein@Home project. Regular users would auto-download that executable provided by the scientific project maintainers. The binary provided by this package is functionally equivalent to the official one. It was however compiled on the Debian build demons. As such it is available to many more platforms than what could possibly be provided by the scientists themselves. Also, recompiling the package is likely to yield an executable well-optimized for the local machine that outperforms the official executable.
Quite some also run the Debian-provided packages for security concerns.
They already decided to trust the Debian community and appreciated
that executable to ship with an inspectable source tree."
