I am essentially banned ... my GPU is working on a NOTHING work unit and i got a message from GPU Grid that said its only for NVidia GPUs ... i got a 780TI factory overclocked with cooling that will support HEAVY USE ... i went through the "tweeks" section and dialed in my card and maybe run it a "little" hot ...

One day?? You work fast!!! My personal best is 2 weeks. Did you send a PM to the admins and tell them they're a bunch of greasy spics or what?

Sorry but you will have to be a bit more specific. I don't understand what is happening exactly.

I would be happy to explain ... first symptom was my GPU not showing a load

Hm that seems to be very clearly a driver or BOINC problem. So for that you need someone in the forum to help you with. I have no clue about that stuff so lets hope someone passes by the thread and helps you out.

Hm that seems to be very clearly a driver or BOINC problem. So for that you need someone in the forum to help you with. I have no clue about that stuff so lets hope someone passes by the thread and helps you out. The usual reason for BOINC not recognizing the GPU on Windows is that it is installed as a service (the default mode). To correct that just run the BOINC installer again (no need to uninstall first) and on the 3rd screen click Advanced and de-select Service install. The re-install should keep all of your other settings. If BOINC recognizes your GPU then you will notice 2 things: 1) When BOINC client (as opposed to BOINC manager) starts, it will put lines in its log file named stdoutdae.txt ( by default c:\ProgramData\BOINC\stdoutdae.txt) ) that name you GPU, driver and other info. You can view that log file in any text editor (nice because it likely has a search function) but the easier way to view the most recent entries in the log is to use BOINC manager... click Advanced -> Event Log. 2) On your list of computers the column labled "GPU" will show your GPU but only after you get BOINC client to recognize it and report it to the GPUgrid project server. The client reports your GPU model (and other info) to the server every time it requests tasks and any time you highlight any project and click Update in BOINC manager. If re-installing as non-service doesn't get your GPU recognized then I would guess it's a driver problem. If your buddies coming from FAH happen to be running Win XP or Linux they will walk all over your 780Ti. In fact my GTX 670 on Linux might even kick your 780Ti's butt. Higher end cards (780 and 780ti) don't perform well at this project on Vista/7/8/8.1 versions of Windows. See other recent threads for details. Also, excessive OC on this project usually gets you nothing but errors. The application in use has been around for a while so it's well optimised, it works the snot out of your GPU even without OC. Monitor temps carefully. Dirty low down trick suggestion If you don't mind pulling a dirty trick/prank then tell your buddies things aren't quite ready at GPUgrid then secretly install XP or Linux. If they're running Vista/7/8 when they sign up here and don't read this forum they won't figure out for a long time why you're kicking their butt. Gotta RTFM and RTFF right? muaaahahahahahaha And welcome to GPUgrid and BOINC:-) ____________ BOINC <<--- credit whores, pedants, alien hunters

To correct that just run the BOINC installer again (no need to uninstall first) and on the 3rd screen click Advanced and de-select Service install. The re-install should keep all of your other settings. If you're planning to keep the same version of BOINC, you do actually have to uninstall BOINC first - otherwise the installer starts in 'repair' mode, and doesn't let you change any settings. You can perform a version upgrade and mode change in a single step, but since the OP is already running v7.2.39, that won't be possible for a few days yet. Uninstalling leaves all project data and settings intact, so it's almost as quick and easy as installing 'over the top'.

They say Linux and XP are about equal with regard to GPU performance at this project. XP has more tools than Linux ATM but that is going to change for 2 reasons:

This project does NOT use AMD/ATI gpu's, they DO use Nvidia gpu's and most cpu's here, that is why you got that message. It is much different to program for one as opposed to the other and since Nvidia is what alot of teachers know, the students learn that too. I am not saying they can't, I am saying this project chooses to only use Nvidia gpu's.
