I got this email from one of the people on my team, seeing how i don't have a PS3 i can't help him/her. so i am posting here on their behalf, as well as sending them the link to this post.

Hi, I don't understand if the problem is that the PS3 doesn't recognize the USB keyboard or if U don't have a USB keyboard but...

U must have a USB keyboard (using PS3Grid special live distro or Yellow Dog 6 distro) the first time U install Linux on PS3: you use it to type your name and attach to the project !
After this the keyboard is not necessary... a USB mouse is enough
