Hi there.

My pc downloads 4 wu's at a time but my GPU is a 9500 GT. It takes nearly 4 days to complete a task and then I have to reset the project to remove the other wu's to get others I can do. Is there any way I can set it to only get 1 wu? I am using a Q8200 Quad core cpu and run 3 other projects alongside the GPUGRID project.
Sorry if this is a newbie question but I am new to this project.

Thanks.

Hi Eric

You get 4 WUs because your quad core has 4 CPUs. A dual core would get 2 WUs etc
That's how it works at the moment but they are hoping to introduce number of GPU+1 shortly.

Are you also doing CPU BOINC projects? If so, you can try adjusting the project resource shares. You will still download four workunits, but I have found that making the ratios very different (say 10 to 1 or more) can induce delays in how quickly the four download.

Other things to try until the change in project policy is made are 1) overclocking the shaders to improve throughput (you should be able to clock the 9500GT such that you drop times from 60 hours to more like 50 hours) and 2) changing the config file so that you run in a 3+1 rather than a 4+1 mode (which should also improve GPU performance).

Maybe the best thing you could do would be to (at least temporarily) combine your two GPUs in one machine (I see you have an 8600GT in your other quad). If you have two PCIe slots (the second slot does not have to be a full 16x slot, even a 1x slot will work with the GPU grid app) you can put both cards in one quad. In that configuration, you should come very close to being able to do four workunits within (or just over) the four day deadline.

Thankyou for the replies. I have now overclocked the shaders but all that has happened so far is that I have had 8 computing errors and no work is being sent as I have reached my quota of results. In view of this I am thinking of reverting back to the default values for the card unless anyone has a 9500 GT and has a working value for the shaders.
My second card 8600 GT is in my normal operating machine so there is no option to put it in with this one. I will consider buying one though.
Has anyone overclocked their card for this project or am I being premature in not leaving enough time for work to appear using these new settings and seeing what happens then.
Thanks for any help.
