Could you please post a newbie guide to get to run boinc and the md project on a ps3?

I followed your guide for the linux (yellow dog) installation on the ps3. So now I have linux running on my ps3.

After a lot of experimenting I managed to run the boinc_client and the boinc_gui. The gui however starts up with a lot of errors:
Skin Manager failed to load image such and such.

Also I like to see nice graphics of the project. Perhaps some molecules floating around?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Mark,
we are testing a new client which is much easier to run. Until is out, follow instructions in the readme file bundled with the ps3grid client.

For what it regards pictures. The main problem is that the picture displayed in the client are application specific. Because we change application name frequently, it has been quite tedious to update it every time.

Best , GDF.

The problem I have is that when I follow the instructions of the readme file I get an error. It says something about not having authorization and it also says that the gui needs to run in the same directory as the client.

I also have another question:
why do other boinc projects such as Rosetta and SETI have to wait 24 hours? That\'s what it says when I add these projects to your version of boinc.

Thanks

Hi,
Rosetta and SETI, as other projects, don\'t have client application for PS3. Your BOINC is testing each 24h to see if there is one.

Can you post the exact error from the screen?

The error occurs when following the instructions of the readme file. So when I\'m in the RUN directory (after executing \"cd run\") I type:
\"../bin/boinc_client & ../bin/boinc_gui\".

I get the following error:
The title of the messagebox is: \"Boinc Manager - connection error\".
The message is:
\"Authorization failed connecting to running client. Make sure you start this program in the same directory as the client.\"

I hope this helps

Update.

I got boinc to work following the instructions in the readme file. What I did was splitting up the commands. So instead of \"../bin/boinc_client & ../bin/boinc_gui\" I used first \"../bin/boinc_client\" and afterwards \"../bin/boinc_gui\".

Using that method I got no errors.

Today my ps3 finished 1 workunit and sent it back but I don\'t see it in my results. Perhaps later?

With all the previous errors I downloaded a couple of workunits but I lost these. I hope that this won\'t affect the overall project.

This is fine. The server will reschedule them.
However, you don\'t seem to have any result completed.
Try to press the update button on the client.
Just a question, but how many PS3 did you attach?

I only have 1 ps3 if I understood your question correctly. I just pressed the update button but I don\'t see anything happening.

What is it written in the task window? Do you have any finished task?

I just received credit. I got this credit by restarting boinc in the BIN directory. I used to excute boinc in the BIN directory to elimenate the error message about the client not being in the same directory. After the completing 1 workunit boinc downloaded another workunit.

It was then that I decided to run boinc from the RUN directory. In this directory I received another workunit. If I\'m not mistaken it\'s a 8 hour unit instead of a 24 hour unit.

Anyway that\'s my story about workunits and boinc. I hope this clarifies something.

Rosetta and SETI, as other projects, don\'t have client application for PS3. Your BOINC is testing each 24h to see if there is one.

SETI and SIMAP has applications for the PS3. At both projects must the application(s) installed manualy.

The thread in the SETI forums : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=39910

And at the SIMAP download page : http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/appdownloads.php
