Message 40275 - Posted: 27 Feb 2015 | 15:54:30 UTC

The last week upload took very long times, with delay of several hours and I could manually intervene. But also access to the web pages of GPUGRID was slow to very slow at times.
However today it is really slow, so I think there is something wrong with a setting at the servers. For refreshing a page it more than minutes then seconds to refresh. I am not kidding here. My connections is 100MB fiber so should be quick enough.

Can someone of the admins please have a look at this? Thank you.

OK -- I am glad that some of us out in the hustings have confirmed this issue.

At this juncture, my hope is that:

1) The Admins acknowledge they have a problem here

2) They are able to identify the problem source.

3) They are successful in resolving the problem.

As you noted, the problem has been around for several days -- it got REALLY obvious early this week, then seemed to get a bit better, but now has returned as a very real problem. It is a bit frustrating that during this run of access issues, even the first step - acknowledgement of a problem -- has not been performed....

Unfortunately, it is now evening going into the weekend back at the project site and I really fear that it will be until early next week before the admins are able to acknowledge they are aware of a problem, let alone fully resolve it <sigh>

There is definitely something really wrong at the moment. Sites load very very slow and uploading finished work and downloading new work does not work. My back-up project kicked in automatically even. Refreshing pages with F5 takes around 4 minutes to load and sometimes even partially.

Earlier today, everything related to GPUGrid.net was not responding for me. Uploads, downloads, web site, web forums ... everything was non-responsive.

I took some tracert runs while it was happening, but I don't think they can tell us anything. They're pasted below.

If there's anything more I should have done, or anything more I can do to help, please don't hesitate to let me know.

For the Last week - experiencing random website glitches mentioned by others. (able to log into account)

During the last 30hr: access to GPUGRID.net been non-existent. (no account log in or website) Has the site/server been compromised? Uploading or downloading a work unit required hours.

As of now: normal access to site/account - Upload of task and a new download at normal speed. Although: unable to access with the BOINC manager options. (Stalls)

The last 24hr my host received over 250: "Sending scheduler request: Requested by project."

More messages:
--15/02/28 16:48:05 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
--15/02/28 16:48:06 | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Looks like things just came back online. Uploads just went through and a hung download completed as well. Of course, all these jobs were Long tasks and will all fall foul of the 24-hour bonus now...

I've been noticing the same issue. Glad most everything else is back in order, though.

Hello to everybody! The GPUGRID team is aware of the website misbehavior although we still don't know the reason why. We had to restart apache couple of times last week and hopefully that solved the problem for now. Is the rendering still slow for you?

The general web rendering is fine, but it's still taking ~15 seconds to open http://www.gpugrid.net/myaccount.php.

I was more concerned that for several hours over the weekend BOINC clients couldn't connect to the server to upload, download, or report work. Several tasks finished within 24 hours, but reporting was delayed - that will have delayed the generation of the 'next step' task and thus delayed the research in general.

Edit - there was no problem displaying the above post in preview, but it took ages to complete the post. That feels more like a database delay, rather than Apache.

The same here: 15 seconds for login into my account.

Was going to set up as fallback project.

It is still slow -- particularly bringing up stats -- but it is working.

I've not seen any uploads/downloads needing to be 'pushed' in the past couple of days.

I am glad to see the confirmation that you are aware of a 'gremlin' out there.

I suspect it is still there though -- though in 'quiet mode'.

My original suspicion was a problem with your provider -- apparently you've determined that isn't the case.

PS -- as an edit to this post. The original post took over a minute from clicking on post to it actually processing.

Hello to everybody! The GPUGRID team is aware of the website misbehavior although we still don't know the reason why. We had to restart apache couple of times last week and hopefully that solved the problem for now. Is the rendering still slow for you?

The server will be rebooted tomorrow. This should fix the problem.

There's some problem with our network connection which is making things rather slow.
I've made some changes on the server side to try to mitigate it; page load times should improve somewhat.

I've improved log-in speed. You'll now no longer get a list of your other projects on your account page.

Hi Matt,

That did the trick, it is now as fast as the other pages of GPU Grid. Quick indeed.

But to be honest, this is not the best solution. If I go to Einstein@home or MilkyWay@home, then both sites have all fast page-refreshing and both have the cross-project statistics.

However I appreciate your efforts to get things faster for us, especially on a Saturday. So thanks and have a good Sunday.

Edit: posting this message took 77 seconds, so there is still a problem :-)
Edit two: adding the first edit took 2 seconds....

TY! I personally don't want to be reminded that I tried another project for 22 minutes. I would rather consider this my only project and if I want cross project stats, there are the links right on my account page to go to them. The quick login is superb!
