Hi,

If you have a Titan, please try out the new ACEMD beta application (You will need the option "run test jobs" selected too)

Please report any problems here on this thread.

For me also, not working, exits immediately after start.

It does not display an error message calculation as before.

Both reporters with Beta app failures are getting error 0xc0000135, the standard "The application failed to intialize properly" error generated when a required DLL is missing.

Does anyone with the resources to buy a Titan (which excludes me) have the skill to run Dependency Walker over the application, and compare the results with the file declarations in client_state.xml?

Thank you - that was enough.

The application appears to have a dependency on TCL84.DLL, but a different version - TCL85.DLL - has been supplied with the download and referenced in the <app_version>.

You need to merge all the computers in you're account.

Not accounts, computers. Log in to you're account, click on view computers, at the bottom you should see "Merge computers by name".

Should non-Titan owners deselect Beta apps, or will the updated app also work for other GPU types (GeForce 600 cards)?

Don't know if I did this correctly but I set my machine with the two Titans to run test apps only (no long, short, beta boxes ticked), and it downloaded two WUs, a long and a short.

From client_state.xml;

Operator, Uncheck the Project Preferences option to run other WU's, if no work is available for your chosen apps,

So I did that leaving just the test apps box ticked and when I update the prefs it goes back and selects all apps.

So I unchecked everything again and selected only the beta apps tick box and made sure the accept other WUs was unchecked.

Now I'm getting that there are no WUs available.

This is all using the prefs for "Home" not the default ones. The box with the Titans in it is set to use the Home prefs.

Sorry if I seem obtuse.

I'm standing by to test the beta app, whenever new workunits become available. In the meantime my Titan will continue to crunch Einstein (5 concurrent workunits in sp mode *grin*) or Milkyway (6 concurrent workunits in dp mode *grin*).

In that context: Would be cool if most colleagues here without a GTX Titan could deselect beta apps in their account to leave a few workunits for those of us who have a Titan. ;) ... provided that the project staff has no other suggestions.

Thank you sir.

I tried 8 of them and all errored out in about 3 secs. I am using the latest driver (320.18).

I'm assuming you get the stderr file back when this happens?

Two valid results with a GTX Titan!

I got two beta workunits today and both results were good.

32-GIANNI_TESTX8-0-1-RND5844_1
31-GIANNI_TESTX8-0-1-RND6917_1

Both ran a bit under a minute, here's a stderr output of one:

<core_client_version>7.0.64</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
MDIO: cannot open file "restart.coor"

# Approximate elapsed time for entire WU: 52.432 s
14:13:52 (2640): called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Anybody else got valid results with a GTX Titan so far?

Hello Zarck,

it seems you only got non-beta workunits for your Titan today. Make sure you set your account as follows:

use Nvidia GPU -> yes
run test jobs -> yes

Run only the selected applications
ACEMD short runs for CUDA 4.2: -> no
ACEMD short runs for CUDA 3.1: -> no
ACEMD beta: -> yes
ACEMD long runs for CUDA 4.2: -> no

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? -> no
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available -> yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) -> yes

Btw, you can use one of the venues (home, work, school) to make sure your hosts w/o a Titan are not affected by above settings.

In the meantime I got three more beta workunits which also validated ok. Seems these are all resends, send out first on the 27th of May.

Regards

This workunit failed on another 660 Ti and finished ok on a 550 Ti (Fermi). A Kepler problem? And it was also a resend from the 27th.

Btw, any plans to distribute more betas? Currently my Titan is offline, I'm plan to move it to another hosts on the weekend.

Before I had a calculation error in the first second.

Now there is a calculation error at the end of the units.

Well, I'm not to certain how long these are supposed to take, but so far, they're not so short on my 780. Running one now with nothing else on BOINC allowed besides the BETA:

75% Power currently being used

89% GPU usage

1.2 GB RAM usage.

Here's the link to my crash as well:

http://www.gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=6932859

Why do these units not have swan_sync enabled? The CPU and GPU times do not match up like they have been ever since 4.2(?) was released.

The good news is, the failures seem to be of a common origin.

EDIT: I also suspended GPUgrid in BOINC until further units are released. Devs, might as well clear these ones out. I doubt gathering more information would help by rerunning them.

Anybody seen the latest points update - looks like these failed work units are effecting the tally board.
Hope that they are only test units and no data from them is being relied upon.
Are those points earned today correct ??
586,692,703 points today just can't be right - surely ??
If correct, we will have no work to do as Titans will have it all finished in a few days !!

Ouch.. there's recently been a massive spree of Noelia klebe for the beta app 6.53. As far as I can tell they fail on pretty much every system. Not sure if these were ment for Titans only. Opting out of them for now.

Edit: that driver reset bug is still present.

I think the only one that didn't fail was while running Linux.

It's my understanding that the facility now has a couple of GTX Titans to do development work with, is this true?

And if true, are the beta WU you are sending out failing on your own Titans?

Update on Titan app:
First of all, Titans should only work on the Beta queue right now. Once we are sure it works we will extend it to the other queues. But we need to do some final testing which I think I am going to organize later today, since there is noone else actively working on it.

What we have: Supposedly the app works fine for Linux and Titans
What we lack: Even a single occurrence where a Windows Titan crunched a Beta app successfully.

So, later today I am going to tell someone in the lab to send some stable simulations to the Beta queue and if there are any successes from Titan users especially from Windows (Linux users can report too) we would have some very helpful results.

Also, MJH tells me that if you are using Titans and the WU's run for a while and then always crash before completion, then you might need to downgrade to driver 310.44 or later in the 310 series as it is supposed to help a bit in our experience.

I will keep you updated.

Hm didn't know that. Then maybe MJH meant that it worked locally on our Linux Titans? Sorry for the confusion. Well in any case, it's Windows we want to test right now.

@Zarck Yes I was watching your machine. Actually right now all the beta WUs seem to fail which would rather point to a general problem in the new app and not just the Titans. Once this batch is done I will pass on the information.

Thanks for the testing and info though!

Unfortunately our developer for the TITANs (and their kind) comes back in July so we will have to wait a bit more. But it is quite high on our priorities to fix the problem with the new GPU's considering that eventually everyone will switch to the new generation (and they provide great performance boost).

What indeed?
I have a NOELIA_1MG that has reached 46% in 1h 41min on a GTX650TiBoost (Linux), but I can see you have 9 which all failed after ~3301seconds (55min) on a W7 system. I doubt this is a coincidence, especially considering your error messages are all:
Exit status 197 (0xc5) EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED
Maximum elapsed time exceeded

Perhaps Noelia is trying to add some sort of a time limit parameter to the WU's? Hope so, saves me suggesting it.

All your tasks failed at about 25min CPU time, but my WU has reached ~33min CPU time.

Any would be limit might be based on steps/computation size, and just expressed as a time?
My in progress WU is 'here' but this issue could well just be Windows only...

It's likely these WU's are not to test Titan GPUs!

I just had 4 NOELIA_1MG units all fail, on my Windows 8.1 Preview x64 OS.

The details were:
- all failed at RunTime: 3,422
- all failed with error: 197 (0xc5) EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED
- all failed with error message: Maximum elapsed time exceeded

I believe 3 of them were attempted on my GTX 460, and 1 was attempted on my GTX 660 Ti.

Is there some sort of 57-minute-limit hard-coded into these?!?

I just now caught on that there were more betas available and set my Titan machine to download.

I got 34equ-NOELIA_1MG-0-1-RND8981_1 (one task only) even though i have two Titans in that box.

It said the estimated completion time was around 45 seconds. That elapsed and the system said it was at only a little over 1% completed. I'm thinking the estimation calc is somehow skewed. But the task is running...ON A GTX TITAN on Windows 7 64bit!

That's progress!

I will post back with results when complete.

There has been no announcement that these NOELIA_1MG WU's are specifically intended for Titan's.

On Windows they are all failing for every card type with the same error.
Some have succeed on Linux (different app though). Would be good to know if anyone with a Titan on Linux ran one...

Same here. 8 betas, all failed on Windows. The only one that completer successfully was on Linux. Going to run out my cache and switch back for a while.

Following your assumption, I messed a little bit with the client_state file, while the last of the current beta units was running, and I guess it could be a too low fpops limit.

By increasing the rsc_fpops_bound value of the running unit 3-fold from 2.5 *10^15 to 7.5 *10^15, the workunit was indeed running longer than the previous 2298 seconds and did finish in time.

Most important, this workunit also validated ok with a GTX Titan on Win7 64bit!

Two side notes:
- the remaining time calculation on these units is wrong (as already noted)
- when closing BOINC manager and apps, to edit the client_state file, it killed my nvidia driver for a second

My suggestion is to increase the fpops limit of the current beta batch and to send them out anew? Dunno why Linux is not affected.

I'm off for the weekend for some concert and festival, so I'll put my Titan off GPUGrid again. Nice weekend everyone!

What we lack: Even a single occurrence where a Windows Titan crunched a Beta app successfully.

Hello Stefan,

just in case you missed it, I had some valid results already w/ the small test units sent out end of May (related post here).

Indeed! I sent Stefan a PM about it this morning, in case he hadn't already seen it.

Thank you. The (new?) batch sent out today still has the "Maximum elapsed time exceeded" problem apparently.

Could finish a total of four since Friday successfully (Titan + Win7 64bit + manual edit)...

They're not syncing up with CPU for whatever reason. I don't know if this is a problem, or the problem, but it seems rather odd.

I´m revamping my farm, and alrdy buy 3 new 770´s. Would be awesome if the GK110 works on GPUGRID. The 790 may be a double gk110 card, so...

770 should work now because it's GK104 = CC 3.0 card.

780,Titan are GK110 = CC 3.5 cards and there is beta for win only for now.

I concur. Would be great to know, if any more beta runs are needed / planned or if you have enough data already to change the standard code? Keep us posted. :)

Yeah sorry guys, I was on holidays the last weeks. Good job though! This is great news. Gianni posted a thread now with an update http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=3424#31651

Although apparently some Titans can run some jobs at the moment. Still, we will have to wait for the update to get real TITAN support.
