Following this thread and the lack of support of Linux in new PS3:
http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=1297

Soon the WUs for PS3 will be over. We do not plan to create new ones. Current users can switch to GPUs which also give a better performance.

So we lost our fight?

Just a thought, isn't PS3 doing some kind of monopoly (Antitrust) here? OSv3 for slim still support FAH but not linux. SO its clearly blocking other DC to succeed.

Simply does not understand the decision of closing PS3grid totally down.
Understand that it now does not make sense to attract new people, but as long as existing users are requesting PS3 WU's, you should deliver.
It is not a reasonable way to treat people who has spent time installing Linux and established a PS3 setup for PS3GRID.

Ok, thanx, fellow crunchers, and project people - see you around. A sad day, but I guess there are only so many platforms a small project can support.

I have been running ap26 on primegrid for a few days now. It is not the same thing, but it seems worthy for now. Seems stable. You need to download another specialized Boinc client package, this one will not give any good performance.

I have been reading up on NVs business practices. I will buy a GPU eventually, but it will be an ATI. Hope you will support it at some point in time.

Bye all.

Wus will start to go down from now. To keep using your ps3 switch to another project, to keep running gpugrid, you would need an Nvidia GPU for now.
Hopefully, in the future, we will extend the range of hardware on which we run.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. And I enjoyed the experience of installing linux and playing with it. I have migrated to primegrid which is just as fine with me, I enjoy numbers as much as molecules.

It was kind of funny though to see you post request for donations also in PS3 forum Sep 3 as you already then had plans to wind down the PS3 support. Everyone can think of a suitable word for that, but I am happy I have not donated anything here and will not in the future either

Best regards and all success to your efforts

many of the ps3 users are also gpu users and we post it anywhere.
In my view the point is not where we run but what we try to solve. As you said, nothing was hidden from you.

best, gdf

Hi,
that's just for the old units. New units will not be able to, so there is no margin for expansion. We are working on different architecture. Hopefully, you will be able to run on those.

How many PS3 was running on 24/7 basis? How many new PS3 device has been added to the grid in the last 6 mons? and whats the rate (new ps3 added) per month?

If the number of ps3 device is sufficient to justify the cause, y cut it?

If newer PS3s can't have OtherOS, Then have it on XMB. Having FAH only on XMB is clearly a antitrust violation. I can't fight this with Sony but gpugrid can :)

A lot of people bought their PS3 especially for this project, and some even more than one. You should not ignore that. There's no reason to stop supplying work units as long as it works.

I concur. I got 2 ps3. 1 is dedicated for this project. 1 for movies/games - previously have gpugrid but stop it as its to slow for me to boot to gameos.

Hi,
the application that we have on PS3 is not the same of the one we have on GPUs.
If they were the same, that would be not a problem. As they are different, it is not sustainable to keep running on the basis that it is not going to grow. Furthermore, the relative performance compared to GPUs is degrading. New GPUs are 10 times the speed of one PS3 and are also much simpler to use as we support Windows and Linux.

Thanks to all of you and please remember that you can still do BOINC on your PS3 using the other projects that support this architecture.
